Headless browsers are real Web browser without a GUI.
These kind of browsers are used mainly by developers for testing because they are able to simulate a browser without a user behind.
In the case of trifleJS, Trident engine used with most Internet Explorer browsers.
trifleJS has been ported from the PhantomJS project, with all the modifications needed to run the Trident engine instead of Webkit.
It mainly differs how it executes code, running the JavaScript files in V8 via a .NET API which in turns controls the IE engine.
An important trifleJS feature is that it can emulate different versions of IE, from IE7 up to IE10.
